  1. I. Warm-Up upon entering
“Name the Book Cover” Trivia
  1. II. Opening
a) Mary Jane Cowman (St. Gabriel) began with an explanation of the meeting
b) Introduced action plan
  1. III. St. Patrick (Maggie Moore)
a) Presented planning sheets for Writing and Math to place in clear folder and use with dry-erase markers to be reused.
b) Passed out packets of planning sheets for each school
c) Discussed and shared “Young Authors Tool Kit” foldable
d) Passed out packets of pages to be included in “Young Authors Tool Kit”
e) Shared examples of Opinion, Narrative, and Informative writing pieces
  1. IV. Writing Committee
a) Discussion of this year’s assessment and grading; still 50 minutes to plan, write, and complete
b) Teachers told that a letter was given to principals to send home
c) What to teach: 5 paragraphs- open, close, and 3 “meats”, identifying important parts; include WOW words, transition words, plans do not need to be attached, opinion clearly stated
d) Committee still unsure of how to specify which spelling words students need to have spelled correctly or how to score
e) Suggestions: Next year have an in-service for training on what/ how to teach, and what the committee is looking for.
f) Charlotte Diocese is NOT represented on the committee and would like to be

a) 4 Square Method: Topic + Picture; Opinion/ Reason; 2 Examples/ Reasons; Conclusion

e) Did not know about parent letters for Writing Assessment

a) Journeys Lesson 9- Dear Mr. Winston lesson; opinion chart included- write opinion and brainstorm
b) P.O.V.- Trial of the Big Bad Wolf (added a reporter so everyone could have a job)
i) Opinion- guilty or innocent
ii) Essay writing: 3-4 sentences on opinion for support; what’s missing, what do you mean, strong words

b) Help distinguish ideas- sort and categorize ideas
c) Example: Halloween- costume or parade distinct enough
